Charles is a lifelong New Yorker. His childhood years were spent on Long Island, with his mother (a teacher), his father (an estate planner), a brother, a sister, two dogs and a large and loving extended family

In 1981, after high school, he moved to Greenwich Village and attended New York University, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Literature and Foreign Languages.

Charles worked in theatre management for several years with New York Theatre Workshop and then for producers of Broadway shows and operas.

From 1990-2005, he and his mother owned and operated a large scale wholesale brownie and cookie bakery in Soho.   Their bakery was considered one of New York City’s top bakeries of its kind and served most of the higher quality food service operations and retailers in the area including Dean and DeLuca, Gourmet Garage, Garden of Eden, Fairway, Metropolitan Opera and all of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Broadway and Off Broadway Theatres, Restaurant Associates, Marriott Hotels and Williams Sonoma, to name a few.

In 1996, he started renting out his extra bedrooms as Bed and Breakfast accommodations in his large Manhattan loft home (unit 100 on the site). Shortly thereafter, friends and family began to ask if he could rent out their apartments and guest rooms. This is how AtHomeUS' service began. He has been booking these types of accommodations ever since and he has become close friends with many of the people whose homes he books, as well as with many of his repeat customers. 

Growing up as part of a close network of family and friends, he developed a passionate interest in cooking, food and wine as well as in entertaining. He is a consummate good host and understands the vital importance of the genial welcome and warm hospitality that people require while travelling, whether for business or pleasure. Consequently, he selects hosts and owners who also genuinely subscribe to this important social and sociable philosophy as part of his team.

His interests include his animals, animal rescue, New York City, fitness, travelling, his country home and theatre as well as close relationships with his parents, siblings, extended family and his wonderful friends.
